The Bible does not mention the date of Jesus’s birth. However, Scripture does offer some clues as to when Jesus was born. Here is what we know.
We know that Scripture associates the birth of Jesus with the season of shepherding. It was a Jewish custom for shepherds to send their sheep out into the fields in the early spring around the time of the Passover. It is clear from Scripture that the shepherds were out with their sheep at the time which would place the birth of Jesus between May and October. See Luke 2.8
Mary and Joseph were travelling from Nazareth to Bethlehem for the census. See Luke 2: 1-5. The most likely time the census took place is between May and October. This is due to the fact that this time frame is the non-rainy season.
